We are so proud of you and what you’ve accomplished. You are an amazing nephew, cousin, son, grandson, athlete, friend and human being. We can’t wait to see what you’ll do next. If we could offer a few words of pseudo-wisdom, it would be this:
College is expensive, and whether its paid for or you’re paying your own way you may not fully understand just how much money this all amounts to. So with that, show up. Be present. Learn as much as you can. Absorb the knowledge. Respect your professors. They know more than you. Be curious. Ask a lot of questions. Focus on what, not when. Don’t worry about a job or a career – you’ll have the rest of your life to work. Have fun. You can only use the excuse of “being young” for so long, so take advantage of it while you can. Don’t worry what others think of you (I don’t think you’ll have a problem there). Take chances and get uncomfortable – you’ll find some of your biggest lessons about yourself in those uncomfortable moments. Don’t be afraid to fail. But learn from your failures. Don’t settle for anything less than what you deserve, even if it means taking longer to get there. Be kind. Open doors for the ladies. They’ll appreciate it. Give back. The world is big and it doesn’t revolve around you. Find ways where you add value to it. Explore the world, but don’t forget where your home is or about your family.
You will do amazing things. Enjoy your last summer of freedom before your life is about to take off.
