It’s my one year fit-versary! A year ago I decided it was time to jump, both figuratively and literally. I was not fit or really all that healthy. I hadn’t gone to the gym or done any home workouts. I rarely ate vegetables. I thought I was active with four little kids, but could barely walk up my driveway without running out of breath. I ate too much. I drank too much. I sat too much. Today, I’m not exactly where I want to be but that’s okay because I’m happily a work in progress. I had a few setbacks (injuries, illnesses and just plain ‘ol summer fun 😝). But as I shared with my current challenge group, instead of looking at how far you have to go, look back at how far you’ve come. So I’m going to take my own advice.
These are the things I’ve achieved this past year:
➳ I’ve worked out at least 5x a week (minus those long weeks where I was injured or sick with bronchitus)
➳ I finally read food labels and am learning what to avoid
➳ I eat organic not because it’s trendy
➳ I make healthy meals from scratch more often then from a box or the freezer
➳ I’ve learned that cooking really isn’t as scary as it once seemed
➳ I’ve made vegan meals and love it
➳ I eat meatless meals at least once a week
➳ I hardly eat red meat not because it’s “bad” but because I don’t crave it
➳ I go days, sometimes weeks, without any coffee and not realizing it
➳ I can do push-ups like a mad women
➳ I worked myself to do 3 chin-ups unassisted
➳ I ran!!! (past tense because I haven’t done much lately; running’s been on my bucket list b/c it seemed so unachievable 😆)
➳ I’ve met the most amazing group of friends that I can now count on when times are hard or when I need the push
➳ I secretly love cardio (all because of Shaun T)
Now back to the road ahead. Summer will soon be over and before you know it, it’s time for jeans. If the thought of fitting into your skinny jeans scares you just a bit, don’t let it.
